May the sound of love be heard everywhere in the town
Presented by Tom Lee Music Foundation in association with the Hong Chi Association, the “Music Without Boundaries” Concert on 2nd November 2009 (Monday) at 7:30pm, Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall. Tom Lee Hong Kong Youth NeoWinds Orchestra together with Hong Chi students and New York Chamber Brass from the US took concert-goers on an enchanting musical journey. The Tom Lee Music Foundation also invited the local pianist Phoebus Chan to be the compere and bring an enjoyable extra dimension to the whole concert going experience.
The first half of the programme, the Hong Chi students presented a series of popular and light classics. The programme highlights were Albert William Ketelbey's short tone poem, "In a Persian Market" and He Luting’s “An Evening Gathering”. Not to be missed were 2 Chinese pop classics “Unreserved Love” and “Truly Love You”, Hong Chi Students performed the pieces with Tom Lee Hong Kong Youth NeoWinds Orchestra and Phoebus Chan on piano respectively. This concert was of great significance for them to demonstrate their musical talents; people with intellectual disabilities participate in and appreciate all forms of arts and music help them to live a fulfilling and meaningful life.
For the second half, the New York Chamber Brass presented Alan Hovhaness’s “Sharagan and Fugue”, Jim Pugh’s “Aviariations” and Graham Ashton’s “Six Miniatures”. New York Chamber Brass was founded as a faculty Ensemble-in-Residence at the Conservatory of Music Purchase College, State University of New York. Drawing together an eclectic and classy mix of New York’s most distinguished brass players, the members - Graham Ashton & Rich Clymer (trumpets), Peter Reit (horn), Tim Albright (trombone), and Marcus Rojas (tuba), are committed to a single artistic vision to promote quality brass chamber music of our time through innovative performances and recordings.
Under the baton of Danilo Delfin, the Tom Lee Hong Kong Youth NeoWinds Orchestra offered an exciting program of a series of popular wind band pieces, including Joe Hisaishi’s “My Neighbor Totoro - Selections for Concert Band” and the new arrangement of Scottish folk song “Comin' thro' the Rye” by Senior Band; the Junior Band performed Joe Hisaishi’s “Spirited Away” and “Shrek Dance Party” which was arranged by Paul Murtha. Ever since 2004, the Orchestra has provided wonderful orchestral training and performance opportunities for budding musicians in the territory. In just five years, the Orchestra has already grown into a wind orchestra that consists of more than one hundred young musicians. |
