Lincoln studied piano at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts when he was only eight years old and soon won the championship of the HK inter-school piano open competition for three consecutive years. After 4 years at the APA, he continued studying piano in the Conservatoire National de Region de Musique de Lyon, France and won many awards in various well-regarded piano competitions and performed in a number of concerts. Lincoln further continued his studies after graduating in 1991 and later got a Classe Perfectionement.

Apart from traditional music training, Lincoln also learned to utilize computer MIDI music tools and applied himself to composing and making music arrangements which also included work on film scores.
