Dr. Mary Mei-Loc Wu gave her first public appearance at the age of three and has been benefited from a long list of distinguished teachers including her mother Constance Wu, Betty Drown, Peter Norris, Louis Kentner, Kendall Taylor, Phyllis Sellick, Ruth Dysan, Vlado Perlemuter and Gilbert Kalish.
A graduate of Yehudi Menuhin School, the Royal College of Music and State University of New York at Stony Brook where she completed her Doctoral Degree, Ms. Wu has won many prizes including the Chappell Gold Medal, the Harpischord Prize and the Clavichord Prize at the Royal College of Music, Concerto Prizes at Banff Center, Canada and at Stony Brook, New York, the first prizes at the Royal Overseas-League Competition, the Mozart Bicentennary Competition of Asia, prize winner at Abraham and Phyllis Katz Competition in New York, and the Piano section of the BBC Young Musician of the year 1982.
Highly acclaimed for her solo playing, Ms Wu, said to be "one of the most gifted pianists of her generation" by Vlado Perlemuter, has performed in many of the world's major concert halls and with many internationally orchestras. Her 1996-1997 solo concerts include performances in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, China and London.
Along with her recording and performing, Ms Wu is now 2000 artist-in-residence at the Music Department, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. With the Bauhinia Trio, she involves herself in promoting chamber music education in schools under the auspices of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. She also helps presenting music to the general public at RTHK Radio 4. |
