Johnny Fong joined the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in 2008 as its Principal Clarinet. In 2009, he performed with the orchestra as a soloist at the Hong Kong Arts Festival and gave his Carnegie Hall début recital at Weill Hall, Presented by the Artist International Presentation Inc, New York. He also performed as a soloist in the “Hong Kong Week Closing Programme” in Expo 2010 Shanghai. Prior to joining the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Fong has served as guest principal clarinet at the Macao Orchestra. He was a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2004 and has since freelanced with orchestras in the region, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Fong has performed throughout the world including China, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, Poland, Lithuania, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Malaysia and Taiwan. Fong has worked under the baton of Maestro Edo de Waart, Sergiu Comissiona, Takuo Yuasa and Yip Wing-Sie. Fong obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2006 where he studied with Andrew Simon. While at the HKAPA, he won the academy’s Concerto Competition in 2006. He received his Master’s degree in 2008 at Mannes College, the New School of Music in New York, studying with Charles Neidich and Ayako Oshima, under a Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund Scholarship. |
