Felix Tao Chang was the first Asian to win the Vianna da Motta International Piano Competition in 1997, and the first winner of the 1996 Hummel Piano Competition. He has given solo and chamber recitals at the Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Tao Chang began studying the piano at age nine; he graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1992 with high distinction under the tutorage of Gabriel Kwok. He furthered his studies with Sequeira Costa at the University of Kansas where he gained his Doctoral degree in piano performance. In addition to a performing career, he maintains an active teaching schedule which includes giving masterclasses and serving as visiting artist at the Academy. He is currently Professor of Piano at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, California. |
