Mozar Tsang was awarded the Grand Final Prize at
“Young Musician of the Year 2010”


This year’s “Young Musician of the Year 2010” Grand Final Competition, co-presented by the Tom Lee Music Foundation Ltd. and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, was held on Monday 20 December at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. Mr. Mozar Tsang, the17-year-old pianist, won the Grand Prize becomes the Young Musician of the Year 2010.


The competition has attracted nearly 1,000 talented young musicians from China, Hong Kong and Macau competing in 4 categories – Piano, Strings, Winds and Percussion. The climax is the four finalists performed their chosen concerto with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Mr. Perry So to demonstrate their remarkable talent and capabilities. After the heat competitions, the local young pianist Mozar Tsang Hin-yat whom played Frederic Chopin Concerto No 1, Op. 11, was awarded the Grand Final Prize with highest appraise on his performance by the Grand Judge Panel.


Tsang has won a number of international prizes, including the Zhou Guangren Young Pianist Award 2010, 73rd Steinway & Sons International Children & Youths Competition (Beijing) 2009.


Before the Concert commenced, the organizer hosted a Souvenir Presentation Ceremony & Cocktail Reception to present souvenirs to the panel of jurors and sponsors as well as pay tribute to them for their generous support to the competition.


Mr. Frank Lee, the Director of Tom Lee Music Foundation, stated that holding a competition of such scope and caliber is certainly not a small undertaking. Of course, there are the hundreds of enthusiastic and dedicated contestants. Then there was the competition committee and team of administrators to ensure all the scheduling and details were looked after. Most importantly, a competition's standard was very much guided by the excellence of the judicial panel. The YMY panel, under the leadership of Professor Gwilt, was certainly second to none in terms of reputation and expertise.

Professor Gabriel M Leung, JP, Under Secretary for Food and Health, the Guest of the Honor, said the aim of this competition was to provide a world-class platform to showcase artistic excellence amongst our young musical talents and believe this year’s competition had once again raised the performance bar to a new height for our young players.
