Tom Lee Music Foundation presented the "Tom Lee HK Youth NeoWinds Orchestra Annual Concert 2009" with guest conductor Dr Lee Tian Tee from Singapore on 1st May 2009 (Friday) at 7.30pm, Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. Dr Lee is an active and renowned conductor and educator of wind music in Asia, he is currently conductor of several bands in Singapore, Hong Kong and China.
Tom Lee HK Youth NeoWinds Orchestra is a community band provides numerous orchestral training and performance opportunities including master classes, workshops, overseas exchange programme and concert performances for budding young wind players in Hong Kong. Since its formation in 2004, the orchestra has expanded into Junior and Senior Band with more than 100 members currently.
Under the baton of Dr. Lee, the concert featureed serious wind repertoire including Meij's "Dutch Masters Suite" ;Gillingham's "With Heart and Voice" and Holst's "First Suite in E Flat". The Junior band in the second half of the concert also performed a series of popular wind band classics including Swearingen's "Flight of Valor" and Moss's "Symphonic Celebration".
The highlights of the concert included Rossini's "Introduction, Theme and Variations", a clarinet solo piece was performed by Natalie Jen Hoe, Grand Prize Winner of the "Young Musician of the Year 2008". In addition, Hisaishi's "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" also performed by the combined Junior and Senior Band.
